Paper on the definition of PEB’s is highlighted by international journal

A journal article setting out a robust definition of Positive Energy Buildings, and investigating the framework, elements and challenges of the concept is being highlighted by the international journal Energies and is currently a featured article on its main site.

The article ‘Positive Energy Building Definition with the Framework, Elements and Challenges of the Concept’ is written by the EXCESS partners Mia Ala‐Juusela, Hassam ur Rehman, Mari Hukkalainen, and Francesco Reda from VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd.

The paper was written as Positive Energy Buildings are increasingly recognised — and used — as an important driver for achieving climate-neutrality, leading to an increased need for a common vocabulary.

Mia Ala-Juusela, the lead writer on the article, explains:

“Buildings account for 39 percent of CO2 emissions worldwide and we have made great progress in decreasing and even eliminating those emissions from specific buildings. A shared understanding of the concept will support a wider exploitation of that knowledge, supporting city planners, companies, scientists, and even citizens in building positive energy buildings, communities and cities,” she says.
