VTT is a non-profit limited liability company established by law.  Its activities are focused on: knowledge intensive products and services, smart industry and energy systems, and solutions for natural resources and environment. It has vast experience with European projects. Concerning energy efficient buildings, nZEB and Smart Cities, VTT has competences on holistic energy-performance, indoor environment, building and product manufacturing technologies, as well as the development of strategic research agendas. Within the EXCESS project, VTT is the Technical Coordinator. It leads the work on 'PEB concepts, challenges and opportunities' and 'PEB implementation and monitoring'.

Cordium Cvba
Cordium Cvba

Cordium is the result of local initiatives and was founded in 1963. Its main goal is to contribute to the right of residential housing for the needy in the region Alken, Bilzen, Hasselt, Hoeselt and Kortessem. We do this through a variety of properties with an optimal price - performance ratio. In the past 57 years Cordium has built approximately 1800 houses. These houses are for hire for persons with a limited income at a rental price adjusted according to their financial situation.

TRYCSA was founded in 1977, specialising in construction, restauration and architectural conservation. It has participated in numerous and complex building construction, restoration and research projects. It works in development of new techniques and materials, in the execution of complete construction works, and mainly in maintenance, restauration and conservation of monuments and singular buildings. TRYCSA's role in EXCESS is to built the demo-building and its facilities in Spain, systems and technological equipment integration of the building, as well as constructive solutions standardisation that improve efficiency and flexibility of the housing units, reducing also construction timings.

ICLEI is a global network of over 1,750 local and regional governments committed to sustainable urban development. ICLEI's European secretariat connects its members with peers and an extended partner network, carries their voices to international levels and provides tools to drive local sustainability transitions. Within the EXCESS project, ICLEI Europe will be contributing to the collection and analysis of plus energy building examples across the EU, the assessment of local policies and integration of positive energy building concepts, EXCESS' replication activities, the dissemination & communication strategy and related activities, as well as digital media activities.

AEE is a non-university research institute and one of the leading European institutes in the field of applied research in three research areas: thermal energy technologies and hybrid systems, building and retrofit as well as industrial processes and energy systems. In addition, the institute provides know-how transfer within the framework of national and international workshops and conferences. The BAR Vermögensverwaltsungs GmbH is the owner of the the former industrial Tagger-Werk area in Graz, Austria. In total 19 buildings with various characteristics and purposes were already refurbished to low energy building standard and rented to 60 tenants. BAR is developing a concept for the further development of the area, as well as operating the building complex. Within EXCESS, BAR will be responsible for the Austrian demonstration case. Further contributions to the project will be the development of the refurbishment concepts for the outstanding buildings and the overall energy system of the area. BAR will also bring its experiences with housing types and previous retrofit projects.
